Earn your Computer Merit Badge and Unit Webmaster Patch...
ON THE INTERNET!

That's right, your friendly neighborhood webmaster will be taking one scout at a time under his wing to earn the Computer merit badge online, and, if the scout wants to, earn his Unit Webmaster patch in the process. If you wish to take part in this unique opportunity, all you have to do is the following...

I. E-mail the webmaster.
A)    Write me a message stating that wish to take the Computer merit badge and/or the Unit Webmaster Patch. I will teach on a first come, first serve basis. The webmaster will reply ASAP and tell you what number you are and approximately how long it will take to get to you.
B)    As stated on the contact page, due to large amounts of spam I had to install the program "Boxtrapper", this means that you now must reply to a verification e-mail for me to receive your message. All you have to do is hit "Reply" and "Send". DO NOT write anything or modify the e-mail in any way.

II. Wait
A)    Yes, you heard correctly. You must wait. You may have been the first to e-mail the webmaster, you may not have. The webmaster will only be taking ONE scout at a time for the computer merit badge. After that scout has finished the badge, the webmaster will contact the next on the list, and so on.
B)    If the scout wishes to earn the unit webmaster patch he will be required to build his unit a site and maintain it for a period of at least one month. Official rules can be found here.
C)    A scout wanting the Computer merit badge WILL NOT have to wait on a scout to finish his Unit Webmaster patch. Once a scout takes on the position of unit webmaster, all I do is check in periodically to make sure the scout is working. If the scout is not working on it, the scout will not receive the Unit Webmaster Patch.
D)    While you are waiting, you can work on the requirements that I don't necessarily need to be with you for, meaning Requirements...
 3 (report)
6(you must send me all work done)
7(d if you want to earn the Unit Webmaster Patch)
10 (report)
All other requirements will be conducted using PHP Chat. Each session will be kept for record purposes.

I sincerely hope that as many scouts as possible take advantage of this, not many courses can be offered over the internet, but I feel that this one can and should be taught this way. Not only do you get the Computer badge, you get a small course in ethics, design, and history as well. I hope to hear from many of you soon. Good Luck to everyone!

Yours in Scouting,
The Webmaster
